Preparing prospective mathematics teachers with the adequate knowledge to teach mathematics effectively is an important issue in mathematics teachers training in pedagogical schools. This study identified the knowledge that pre-service mathematics teachers need to teach variability of data from statistical graphs in Math curriculum in high schools; then conducted a survey to assess prospective mathematics teachers' knowledge for teaching the content. The research results show that the surveyed prospective mathematics teachers’ knowledge were still insufficient in terms of both subject knowledge and pedagogical knowledge for teaching variability of data from statistical graphs. In order to effectively teach this concept, in the researchers’ opinion, prospective mathematics teachers need to have a deeper understanding of the nature of data variability, and at the same time develop and thoroughly practice the skills of analyzing and processing data.
