Abstract
As Wi-Fi fingerprinting is a promising approach for indoor localization, one of the major challenges is understanding how fast fading and device heterogeneity problems influence the performance of the Wi-Fi fingerprinting systems. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the influence of fast fading and the device heterogeneity problems on the Wi-Fi RSS values, as well as on the performance (i.e., the recognition rate) of a Wi-Fi fingerprinting system WHERE.
Besides, we also compare the performance of Wi-Fi fingerprinting in the experimental scenarios and in the real scenarios with the consideration of the fast fading problem. It concludes that both fast fading and device heterogeneity heavily influences the RSS values. However, the influence of fast fading on the performance of the Wi-Fi fingerprinting system can be mitigated when the Wi-Fi data is collected in the real scenarios.
