The meeting of the Tourism Sector Private Sector Working Group under the Lao Business Forum mechanism took place on September 17, 2024, at the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Inthy Deuansavanh, Member of the Executive Committee of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) and Deputy Head of the Tourism Sector Working Group under the Lao Business Forum mechanism, was honored to chair the meeting. The event was attended by businesses operating in the tourism sector and the Secretariat of the Lao Business Forum, with a total of 39 delegates (including 17 female delegates).
The purpose of the meeting was to report on the progress of issues raised at the previous Lao Business Forum and for businesses in the service industry in general to propose, discuss, and identify priority issues that are currently causing difficulties and obstacles in the industry's business operations, along with corrective solutions; to compile and send to the Lao Business Forum Secretariat to refine and include in the consultation process of the 16th Lao Business Forum in the next phase. The content of the meeting can be summarized as follows:
- Issuance of a visa policy for target tourist groups during the Visit Laos Year.
- Establishment of a Tourism Promotion Board.
- Amendment and supplementation of the Decree on the Tourism Fund.
- Adjustment of public land concession fees for developing nature-based tourist attractions.
- Issuance of guidelines on organizing sports activities for tourism.
- Approval process for motorcycle and bicycle caravans entering the Lao PDR for tourism.
- Facilitation of the approval of requests to bring tourists into the country.
- Systematic determination of development strategies for tourism cities and tourist destinations.
- Services of the Laos - China railway line.
- The issuance of permits and the inspection and examination work by the police force.
- The shortage of skilled labor.
Next steps and iternational funding for Laos Tourism Development

Following this meeting, the standing Lao Business Forum Secretariat at the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry will coordinate with the Services Sector Working Group to synthesize the priority issues proposed by the delegates and prepare an issue proposal document to send to relevant government agencies and departments for research and preparation for the consultation meeting between the public and private sectors in the subsequent phase.
The aforementioned meeting received funding from the Lao PDR Competitiveness and Trade (LCT) Project, which is co-financed through a multi-donor trust fund by the World Bank, the Australian Government, the Irish Government, and the United States Government. The main objective of the project is to reduce and eliminate barriers to enterprise growth and development by improving the regulatory environment, lowering trade costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of the business sector.
